Our Restaurant Marketing Labs team is in the air over 50% of the year, so they’re full of great ideas for busting stressful situations before they arise. We asked our staff of seasoned travelers for their best tips and tricks for staying sane while on the go. Here’s their helpful guide to becoming a professional traveling machine!
Get App-y – The number of travel apps that are available to help ease the pains of juggling different cities, car services and hotels have skyrocketed in recent years. Below are some of our favorites.
- Tripomatic – this clever app shows you weather, local attractions, hotels, car rental services and helps you plan an itinerary with travel times included.
- Maps.me – this one is great for when you have a bad signal on your phone but still need to access your map of the area to navigate through an unfamiliar city.
- f.lux – this app helps your eyes adjust to the glow of your laptop screen and helps to reduce jet lag.
- Google flights – this app is perfect for last minute travel comparison shopping.
USB Battery Pack – If your seat on the plane doesn’t include a power outlet, an additional battery pack is essential. You’ll never regret having a full battery and this is essentially just an external battery pack that can fully charge your laptop.
Dress for Success – This doesn’t just apply to looking professional, it’s also a good idea to wear clothes that you can easily get through security in without setting off metal detectors. Avoid wearing clothing or accessories that are difficult to remove and are likely to slow you down on your way through security lines.
Dial that Number – If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having missed a flight, waiting in line for 30 minutes while the next flight soars overhead seems silly. Call customer service and see if they can get your ticket re-booked faster than the gate agent can.
Treat Yo’ Self – Travelling for business is stressful and it involves a lot of moving parts in unfamiliar territory. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a nice souvenir, a decadent dessert or the splurge of a new outfit. Sometimes these little comforts remind us that the travel stress will pass and we’ll soon be back home.
